WJ Southards

WJ Southard's comes from a long line of mattresses makers. WJ Southard opened his mattress store in Syracuse, NY in 1915.  Back then, most jobs were labor intensive.  Southard’s goal was to craft mattresses so that every body could get the rest they needed after a long day of hard, back-breaking work.  They have learned a lot of things since 1915.  Mostly that old is the new new. And that WJ Southard Mattress was a green company, well before it was critical to be environmentally smart.

That’s why they returned to their roots.  They handcraft your mattress using the same materials and techniques they used almost 100 years ago. The end result is a chemical-free mattress that’s both people-friendly and eco-friendly.  Reducing our carbon footprint means producing mattresses in new ways.  All of WJ Southard mattresses are crafted by hand—without the use of energy or machinery—using techniques that have been in the family since 1915.  The thought is simple, machines may be faster and less expensive, but ultimately, people do it better.  Plus, human power is a 100% renewable source of energy, (as long as that human is getting enough quality sleep at night.)  The artisans who will ultimately craft your mattress have more than 75 years of combined experience.
